BENGALURU: Union Minister Prakash Javadekar has been appointed as the BJP’s election in-charge for Karnataka assembly polls while his cabinet colleague Arun Jaitley will oversee Gujarat election. Union Minister Piyush Goyal will be co-incharge for Karnataka while BJP chief Amit Shah has appointed four Union Ministers - Narendra Singh Tomar, Nirmala Sitharaman, Jitendra Singh and P P Choudhary - as co-incharge for Gujarat polls.

Karnataka BJP leadership has welcomed the appointment of Javadekar as election in-charge. “Javadekar’s immense organisational skills and experience in executing poll strategies would be of great help in realising BJP’s Mission 150 in Karnataka,” state party president B S Yeddyurappa said. Javadekar, a former Bank of Maharashtra officer, became a full-time party worker in 1981. In 1989, he was appointed as the state secretary and campaign chief of the party in Maharashtra, a position he held till 1995.
