BENGALURU: The mid-day meal being served in over 60,000 anganwadis in the state will get more nutritious soon with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah all set to serve children an egg along with the regular fare of rice, milk and upma.

The state government has accepted the recommendation of the Woman and Child Development Department to serve eggs six days a week for anganwadi children as part of the initiative to eradicate malnutrition among children.

The CM is expected to announce the scheme in his next budget to be presented in March.

The scheme will benefit about 60 lakh children attending anganwadis, said sources in Women and Child Development Department.

Those not preferring eggs are likely to be served a banana or other fruits, sources said.
