BENGALURU: Schools charging exorbitant fees could face the heat, if the state government has its way. A bill to regulate the fees in private ICSE and CBSE schools was introduced in the Legislative Assembly on Monday.
The bill provides for imposing a penalty of up to Rs 10 lakh against such schools for collection of excess fees and also enables the government to order refund of amount collected by any institution in excess of the amount prescribed under section 48 of the Act.
The Karnataka Education (Second) Amendment) Bill, 2017, seeks to amend the provisions of Karnataka Education Act, 1995. With this, it aims to make ICSE and CBSE schools subject to the conditions of provisions of section 5A, 48, 112A and 124A of the Act to ensure schools comply with the fees, providing education to weaker sections of the society and record proceedings of the meetings, and payment of penalty.
