Karnataka: Rains push up KRS water level to 80 ft

Heavy rain has brought respite to the farming community and authorities of riparian states as the water level has increased in both Kabini and Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir.

MYSURU: Heavy rain has brought respite to the farming community and authorities of riparian states as the water level has increased in both Kabini and Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir.

The rain has added around 7 tmc ft of water in KRS and Kabini in the past couple of days. Heavy rain has been lashing the catchment areas of the dams. The rain has added two tmc ft of water to KRS in the past 10 days taking the water level to 80 tmcft.

Inflow into KRS was 8,000 cusecs and is likely to exceed 15,000 cusecs as there is heavy rain in Kodagu and other Cauvery catchment areas.The water level in Kabini reservoir has shot up from 2,253 ft to 2,267 ft in the past six days. The inflow is likely to swell if Wayanad region in Kerala continues to receive heavy downpour.
