‘One Station One Product’ gains popularity in Karnataka

Under the scheme, OSOP outlets at railway stations are allotted for showcasing, selling and giving high visibility to indigenous/local products.

BENGALURU:  The ‘One Station One Product’ scheme by the Railway Ministry to promote local entrepreneurship, SHGs, and local products in the spirit of ‘vocal for local’, which commenced in March 2022, is gaining popularity. Under the scheme, OSOP outlets at railway stations are allotted for showcasing, selling and giving high visibility to indigenous/local products.

Of the 728 railway stations covered with 785 OSOP outlets as on May 1, 21 stalls are functioning at 21 stations in Karnataka selling artefacts made by indigenous tribes, handlooms by local weavers and handicrafts. While in KSR station in Bengaluru, the OSOP stall showcases Channapatna toys, Tumakuru station has coconut products and traditional cold-pressed oils at Arsikere station, said a press release.

At KSR station, V Prakash of Bengaluru-based Balaji Handicrafts said he was happy that Channapatna toys are becoming popular. At Bengaluru Cantonment Station, OSOP has been allotted to Nagashree YR, who sells millets and organic honey, and said she feels proud to market her products in Bengaluru and expressed gratitude to railways for supporting women entrepreneurs.
