UDUPI: A 31-year-old man allegedly killed his elderly parents with a hammer following a quarrel at Baikady village in Gandhinagar in Udupi district on Sunday night.
The deceased have been identified as Mehboob Ali (55), a truck driver, and his wife, Shamshad Begum (50). Their son, Shaheed Ali, has been arrested in connection with the incident.
According to police, Shaheed Ali, who reportedly works as a food delivery executive with Zomato, had a petty quarrel with his parents before allegedly attacking them on the head with a hammer. Both victims died on the spot.
Police said Shaheed Ali claimed that his father frequently assaulted and scolded him, while his mother allegedly supported his father. In a fit of rage, he reportedly attacked both of them.
Following the incident, Shaheed himself contacted the police emergency number 112 and informed them about the murder. He allegedly told the police that he had taken the extreme step due to what he described as prolonged mental harassment by his parents.
A case has been registered at the Brahmavar Police Station under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
