MYSURU: Though senior Congress leaders from Mysuru— Dr HC Mahadevappa and Venkatesh— failed to find their names in the first list of ministers, Congress MLC Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah took oath as a minister in the DK Shivakumar cabinet.

Dr Yathindra is set to emerge as Mysuru region’s principal representative in the State Government following the end of his father Siddaramaiah’s tenure as CM.

The MLC’s elevation is considered as a move to ensure continuity of Mysuru’s influence in the corridors of power while simultaneously promoting a younger generation of Congress leadership. A qualified pathologist by profession, Yathindra has steadily strengthened his position within the party.

His appointment is being seen as recognition of his growing political stature and his role in strengthening the Congress in Old Mysuru. His elevation will provide a fresh voice from Siddaramaiah’s political home turf within the Cabinet.
