BENGALURU: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that the Congress is working on creating awareness among its MLAs and booth-level agents about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Friday, Shivakumar, who is also state Congress president, said that a conspiracy is being hatched to remove votes of the poor through the SIR exercise. “I have told our party workers that they must be very vigilant.

Meetings are being called and the dates have already been announced. That is why we have come forward to raise awareness. Everyone needs to submit an application. Otherwise, citizens will lose their votes. We have seen this happen in other states.

If the right to vote is lost, citizens will be deprived of many benefits, including pension and the Gruha Lakshmi scheme. That is why we are working on spreading awareness,” he said.

Senior Congress leader BK Hariprasad said SIR is not the work of the Election Commission of India. “The Centre is trying to make India a complete Hindu country in the name of SIR by deleting the names of Muslim voters. I was in West Bengal, and this is what they did there.

The RSS from the beginning does not believe in the Constitution, but the BJP, who are elected under the Constitution, defaming it is unfortunate’’ he said.

He said that in Karnataka, the BJP is trying to remove SCs/STs and Minorities from the voters’ list because they vote for the Congress.
