KOZHIKODE: The UDF and the LDF are promoting fundamentalist elements in the Muslim community, said BJP national secretary and spokesperson Balbir Punj here on Saturday.

At a meet-the-leader programme at the Calicut Press Club, he said these fronts had done nothing to help the poor Muslims.A majority of the Muslims in the country are nationalists and progressive, but the CPM and the Congress are courting the “ultra fundamentalists”.

The BJP is the “only secular party”. There is a double standard in defining secularism.

Varun Gandhi is booked under the National Security Act whereas the likes of PDP supremo Abdul Nassar Madhani are given “royal treatment,” he said.

EC DECISION ILLOGICAL

On the Election Commission’s decision to ban the CD brought out by the BJP for the election campaign, Punj said the “logic behind the action is quite illogical.” The allegation is that the CD contained references to the CPM-PDP alliance and Lavalin issues.

“Those who do these things are not ashamed of themselves, then why should we feel embarrassed about the CD?” he asked.
