Mattannoor, sons enthral music lovers

Sreekanth and Sreeraj, enthralled music lovers at the 16th Shatkala Govindha Marar music festival at Ramamangalam.

PIRAVOM: The triple thayambaka performed by Mattannoor Shankarankutty and his sons, Sreekanth and Sreeraj, enthralled music lovers at the 16th Shatkala Govindha Marar music festival at Ramamangalam on Thursday.

The rhythm began in the koor, slightly moved to edavattom, edanila, and finally reached to erikada, the tempo reached its climax.

The more than one-and-a-half-hour performance by Mattannoor mesmerised the audience.

Thirteen artists were part of the performance, in which nine performed chenda and four performed elathalam.

Various cultural programmes will be held as part of the festival. A mohiniyattam performance of Nirmala Panickar, seethankan thullal by Kalamandalam Prabhakaran, classical music by Sreevalsan J Menon, mohiniyattam by Deepthi Omcheri Bhalla, thayambaka by Kalpathy Balakrishnan and classical music by Shengottai Harihara Subrahmaniyam will be held. The festival, jointly organised by the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy and the Shatkala Govinda Marar Smaraka Kalasamithi, will conclude on Sunday.
