PATHANAMTHITTA: Opposition leader Oommen Chandy has said that the LDF Government during its four-and-a-half years rule allowed Santiago Martin to take away a whopping Rs 50,000 crore from the people of the State.

Addressing an election meeting at Mylapra near here on Saturday, he said that the LDF Government, especially Finance Minister Thomas Isaac, allegedly colluded with the lottery mafia for the last four-and-a-half years. The LDF Government’s decision to come out with an ordinance against the lotteries of other states at present instead of four-and-a-half years ago could be an ample proof of the LDF Government’s alleged nexus with the culprits, Chandy said.

The Opposition leader challenged the Government an inquiry by a sitting judge of the High Court on the lottery scam.

He said that he would apologise before the people if the inquiry report exonerates the LDF Government.

Oommen Chandy said that the Congress High Command removed Abhishek Singhvi from the Congress spokesman’s post when the State Congress leaders made a strong plea.

“Why can’t the Chief Minister act on the same line against the Finance Minister”, Chandy asked.

The LDF Government proved before the people that it is an all-round failure, he said.

During the last four and half years, the Achuthanandan Government could not implement any of the promises it made during the time of the election, he said.

Smart City, Vizhinjam Port and Kannur Airport are some of the failed promises, Chandy said.

DCC general secretary Konniyur P K presided over the meeting.

K Sivadasan Nair MLA, DCC president P Mohanraj, Abraham George Pachayil and A Sureshkumar and Akhilesh Karyattu, UDF district panchayat candidate Babu George, P K Gopi, Jessy Varghese and Binu Mylapra and A Sureshkumar and Vettoor Jyothi spoke.
