THIRUVANATHAPURAM: Singer K J Yesudas has been selected for the Swathi Sangeetha Puraskaram for 2010 instituted by the State Government while Kuroor Valiya Vasudevan Namboothiri and Kalamandalam Gangadharan shared the Kathakali Puraskaram. Kuroor Valiya Vasudevan Namboothiri won the award for Kathakali 'Vesham' and Kalamandalam Gangadharan for Kathakali music.

Tripunithura Krishnadas and Karavattedath Narayana Marar shared the Pallavoor Appu Marar Award.

Krishnadas won the award for his contributions to

Idakka and Narayana Marar for his contributions to Panchavadyam. Guru Gopalakrishnan and Krishnanattam artiste M P Parameswara Panikkar shared the 'Nriththanatya Puraskaram' for 2010, Cultural Affairs Minister M A Baby told reporters here on Friday. All the awards carry a purse of `1 lakh, citation and plaque.

Padayani artiste and folklore scholar Kadamanitta Vasudevan Pillai won the P K Kalan Award instituted by the Kerala Folklore Akademi. The award commemorates P K Kalan, a noted Gaddika artiste who strived for tribal welfare and revival of tribal art forms.

ONV honoured

Eminent Mridangam maestro Umayalpuram Sivaraman honoured poet O N V Kurup who won the Padmavibhushan Award this year.

''It is a honour for the nation and a honour for poetry,'' Sivaraman said, draping a red and gold shawl on the poet. Umayalpuram Sivaraman was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2010.
