The State Government has decided to take over the Kochi Co-operative Medical College, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told mediapersons at a post-Cabinet briefing here on Wednesday.

The Cabinet decided to take over the institution and bring it under the Director of Medical Education, on the basis of a report submitted by a high-level committee.

‘’In the case of Pariyaram Co-operative Medical College, the report has not been finalised by the panel,’’ Chandy said. The Chief Minister said that a five-member committee comprising the department Secretaries of Health, I&PR, Finance and Co-operation and DME has been asked to examine the wages and service benefits of the Kochi Co-op Medical College staff and come up with recommendations against the backdrop of the proposed takeover.

An assets and liability report on the Medical College has also been sought, Chandy said. It will be compiled by a team comprising the Principal Secretaries of Health and Finance, Co-op MC principal and Ernakulam District Collector as convenor.
