People who want to buy the sand can deposit the money in the treasury and the loading charges will be transferred to the accounts of unions.

Executive engineer of the Irrigation Department at Malampuzha T P Sen is of the opinion that only mechanised loading will be able to clear the loads from here. He said that at a time only eight lorries will be permitted to load sand from the site.  “We have incurred a cost of `1.19 crore for filtering the sand when the work was stopped and accounts were freezed. We have been assured payment once the filtering is complete,” said contractor Madhavachandran.  “When global tenders were floated for desilting the dams, the lowest tender quoted was `850 for one cubic metre. KMDCL carried out the task for `100 per cubic metre. We need to put a lid on unnecessary controversies as the dams in the state could satisfy the needs of sand for the whole state,” said N Vimalan, former managing director of KMDCL.
