The Admission Supervisory Committee for Professional Colleges, headed by former judge Justice J M James, has cancelled the entrance examination for admission to management seats in the member colleges of the Kerala Private Medical College Management Association (KPMCMA) after it found “prima facie evidence of widespread irregularities” in its conduct.
A fresh entrance examination to the management seats will be conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala, on June 22, said Justice J M James. “After widespread allegations of massive irregularities in the conduct of the exam, we called for evidence from students, parents and the general public. A private Malayalam TV channel also submitted a CD containing statements of students, parents and agents of the management,” he said.
“After examining the evidence, we came to the conclusion that the entrance exam question paper was leaked and that there were monetary deals between the management and some of the aspirants,” Justice James said.
However, aspirants to the 315 management seats in eight colleges under the KPMCMA will not be affected as a fresh exam will be conducted by the CEE.
Speaking to Express, Anil Kumar, Secretary of the KPMCMA, termed the decision unilateral.
“With the unilateral cancellation of the entrance exam without consulting us, the agreement (with the government) is now void,” he said.
