Unruly scenes at Youth Congress polling centres

Express News Service

Though there is clear instruction that there should be no factional differences within the Youth Congress, the counting centre for the Youth Congress election on Thursday witnessed unruly scenes with representatives from two groups engaging in scuffles. There were minor clashes between Youth Congress workers belonging to the ‘A’ and ‘I’ factions at the Rene Event Centre, which was the counting centre, right from the commencement of the counting which began by 9 am.

After getting some positive reports from the counting station, the workers from both the factions started raising slogans supporting their leaders and candidates. The situation worsened when the workers started pushing and pulling each other. After maintaining a clear upper hand in the polling, ‘A’ group started a procession at the premises of the counting centre. Sensing the turn of events, most of the ‘I’ group activists left the counting centre by evening. Though the result was further delayed, certain members were not ready to leave the spot. When the activists entered the road raising slogans, it created a minor traffic issue.
