The police seized country-made bombs from a rocky terrain near Pattalakunnu in Mannuthy on Friday morning and arrested four people in connection with the incident.

According to sources, the police acting on a specific complaint raided the area in the morning and recovered five powerful electric detonators, five ammonium nitrate sticks, and an IED and dynamo-connected mosquito bat each from the area. The arrested have been identified as Nishad, 32, Ashiq, 28, Thanu, 22 and Gireesh, 30, all natives of Mannuthy. According to Mannuthy SI A Baiju, the Mannuthy and Ollur Police jointly conducted a raid in the area following a tip-off and unearthed country-made bombs kept in the crevice of rocks.

The arrest and seizure were made following the interrogation of three people who were arrested by the police in connection with a waylaid case at Pattalakunnu the other day. The arrested were also accused in several other criminal cases, the police said.

According to police, the gang had stored the explosives in order to attack money racketeers to make easy money. The arrest was made under Explosive Substances Act. The seized bombs were defused by bomb squad later in the evening.
