K Krishnankutty resigned from the post of senior vice president of the Socialist Janata party (Democratic) (SJD) on Friday. Krishnankutty faxed his resignation letter to M P Veerendra Kumar, the state president of the party, on Friday morning. He stated that he was against the agricultural policies initiated by the Centre in his resignation letter.
Speaking to ‘Express’ K Krishnankutty said that he has not resigned from the primary membership of the party and will continue to work for the party. Krishnankutty said that he wanted to continue working with the anti-globalisation movement led by president Viswambaran and secretary Thampan Thomas. He said that the decision was taken since he could not do justice both to the anti -globalisation movement and the post of senior vice president of the party. He said that the agriculture sector was in doldrums as the price of produce was plummeting and farmers were unable to repay loans. Similarly, the education sector was being commercialised like never before. He added that the anti-globalisation movement was the platform of the SJD. K Krishnankutty had been at loggerheads with the SJD for sometime. Though he wanted to contest as an SJD candidate from the Chittur assembly segment, the Congress sitting MLA K Achuthan had refused to vacate it.
Krishnankutty was offered the adjacent Nemmara seat which he declined to accept. Since then he has been critical of the policies of the UDF Government. Krishnankutty had recently shared the dais with the LDF precipitating the differences within the party.
He was on his way out, says Veeran
Kozhikode: Socialist Janata (Democratic) president M P Veerendrakumar has said that the party would have been forced to remove K Krishnankutty from the senior vice-president post if he had not tendered his resignation. Responding to the resignation of Krishnan Kutty here on Friday, Veerendrakumar said: “Despite being given top consideration in the party, Krishnankutty always took a stance that put the party on the defensive. There had been pressure from within the party to take action against Krishnan Kutty but it was deferred. If he had not resigned, he would have been removed from the post.” Veerendrakumar added that it was Krishnan Kutty who had taken much interest in the alliance with the UDF.
