A day after death row convict ‘Ripper’ Jayanandan and his cellmate escaped from Poojappura central prison, an undertrial in a murder case gave police the slip, but was nabbed within hours.
Shibu alias Peeli Shibu, who was arrested in April this year in connection with the infamous Aprani Krishnakumar murder case, escaped from train while being taken to Thrissur from Pujapura central prison.
Shibu was nabbed from near the railway station at 5 pm. According to the Kayamkulam DySP S Devamanohar, the incident took place at Kayamkulam railway station at 12.45 pm. Shibu was being taken to be produced before a court in Thrissur on Wednesday, in connection with an attempt-to-murder case. The accused escorted by two cops requested for a toilet break as the train started moving from the railway station. As reached near the toilet, he jumped off the train after pushing the police man. The policemen who were escorting Shibu could not pursue him as the train picked up speed.
According to locals, he took away clothes from a house near the railway track. The police launched a search operation soon. Shibu was spotted trying to board a running train at around 5 pm. The police alerted the train passengers and they pulled chain. When the train stopped he made another bid to escape by jumping to the other side of the railway track. The police nabbed him with the help of locals. Kayamkulam DySP S Devamanohar said he will be produced before the court on Wednesday.
