Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Saturday directed District Collector K V Mohan Kumar to initiate a detailed inquiry into the death of seven-year-old Adeethi S Namboothiri, following torture by her step mother.
The order was issued on the basis of a complaint filed by the relatives of the late Sreeja, mother of the deceased. According to the complaint, Ramla alias Devika, the step mother and Subrahmanian Namboothiri, Adeethi’s father plotted the murder to misappropriate the insurance amount deposited in the account of Adeethi. It also urged to conduct an investigation on Devika, who was found to be an accused in a temple theft case. Police on Saturday took Subrahmanian Namboothiri and Devika, who were remanded in judicial custody by Judicial Magistrate Court-4, to collect evidence from their residence at Bilathikulam.
Earlier, during the interrogation, Devika had admitted that she was an accused in a case pertaining to the theft of the ‘Thiruvabharanam’ from a temple at Aluva. Devika, along with her second husband Raman Namboothiri, a priest at the Sree Krishna Temple, Aluva, committed the theft.
