Couple attack case: Hindu Aikya Vedi alleges conspiracy

Express News Service

The Hindu Aikya Vedi has alleged that a conspiracy was hatched by certain political forces to tarnish the image of a senior Sangh Parivar leader, in the case related to the attack on a couple, in a KSRTC bus at Muvattupuzha on May 23.

R V Babu, the state general secretary of the Aikya Vedi, addressing a press conference, alleged that vested interests are trying to paint Ka Ba Surendran, organisational general secretary of the Bharathiya Vichara Kendhram, as a sexual offender.

“It is painful that a well respected leader is portrayed intentionally in bad light. Media reports twisted the incident. Surendran did not sexually assault the woman,” Babu said.

According to Babu, there was a verbal altercation between Surendran and Vahab, the husband of the woman, while boarding the bus.

“Vahab started abusing Surendran from Thodupuzha. Surendran was threatened that he will be attacked in Muvattupuzha. Surendran got frightened and informed a colleague about the about the incident.

Some of our activists went to Muvattupuzha bus stand to save Surendran from a possible attack. When our activists spoke to Vahab, he tried to attack them. They retaliated and by this time Surendran was escorted to safety,” he said.

“We are not advocating violence and we condemn the unfortunate incident of physical assault. At the same time, we would like to record that it was an emotional reaction from the part of some young activists. But certain communal forces like SDPI tried to misrepresent the issue. A large number of media outlets and organisations like DYFI abetted this. Our understanding is that SDPI elements operated through DYFI,” he said.

M P Appu, secretary of the Aikya Vedi alleged that the police registered a case against Surendran because of political pressure. “We will fight the case legally as well as by mobilising people till Surendran’s innocence is proved,” he said.
