Attappadi to get ESI coverage

Union Minister of State for Labour Kodikunnil Suresh announced here on Tuesday that a new local-participation approach would be followed for implementation of tribal development schemes, similar to that of the Attappadi Hill Area Development Society (AHADS).

He was speaking to mediapersons in Attappadi after visiting the various oorus (tribal hamlets) to take stock of the developments which followed the death of adivasi children due to malnutrition and anemia.   The Attappadi area will be brought under theEmployees State Insurance  and the medical unit of the Employees State Insurance will visit Attappadi every week, said the Minister.

A three-member team from the Chennai branch of Unicef, accompanied by a consultant on woman and child care from Kila, Thrissur, visited Attappadi on Tuesday to study the recent child deaths there.
