Pension norms to be relaxed: CM

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that the norms for allowing old age and widow pension would be relaxed.

Inaugurating the new building of Pulayanarkottah Care Home, Old Age Home under the Social Welfare Department here on Wednesday, Chandy said that the government had decided to provide pension for those who have adult daughters. He pointed out that it the responsibility of the society to protect the health and security of elder persons.

The old age home is constructed on 2.73 acres of land handed over by the Health Department. The estimated cost of the building is Rs 5 crore.

The building has 33 rooms, office, visitors lounge, doctors consulting room, recreation room which can accommodate 150 persons, dining hall and water heater. Facilities have been  arranged for accommodating four persons in a room.

Panchayat and Social Welfare Minister M K Muneer presided over the function. District Collector K N Satish, Social Welfare Department director V N Jithendran, people’s representatives and officials participated in the function.
