MLA’s son dies in freak mishap

Emmanuel Mons, 11, son of Kaduthuruthi MLA Mons Joseph, died on Sunday, while playing at his house in Appanchira, near Kaduthuruthi. According to neighbours, Emmanuel died of suffocation when he was strangled by the shawl of a churidar while playing with it.

The accident occurred around 10 am. Though Emmanuel’s mother Sonia and his sister Maria Mons were at home, they did not discover about the mishap till very late and by that time, the boy had suffocated to death.

Emmanuel was a class V student at Global School, Chottanikkara, near Mulanthuruthi. His sister Maria Mons, is a class VIII student in the same school. Emmanuel’s body is being kept in a private hospital morgue in Kaduthuruthi after conducting post-mortem examination at the Medical College Hospital, Kottayam.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday at St Mary’s Thazhath Church, Kaduthuruthi. Emmanuel’s eyes have been donated to MCH, Kottayam.

Meanwhile, according to the police, a case of unnatural death has been registered in connection with the incident.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Finance Minister K M Mani, Assembly Speaker G Karthikeyan, M B Rajesh MP, C F Thomas MLA, Jose K Mani MP, K Suresh Kurup MLA and various other political leaders and public figures came to the residence to console Mons Joseph.
