Renovated Kairali and Sree theatres to be opened

The renovated Kairali and Sree theatres of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) will be inaugurated by Social Welfare and Panchayat Minister M K Muneer at a function to be held on September 13 at 9:30 am. Actor Mammootty’s new film ‘Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus’ will be exhibited after the inaugural session at 3 pm. Kozhikode North MLA A Pradeep Kumar will preside over the function in which Mayor M K Premajam will light the lamp. Kozhikode MP M K Raghavan, MLAs Elamaram Kareem and K B Ganesh Kumar, Deputy Mayor P T Abdul Latheef and former chairman of KSFDC, P V Gangadharan, will attend the programme. The 3.5-crore renovation project features Digital Theatre System(DTS), 7.1 sound system, air-conditioner, high definition (HD) screen, comfortable push-back seats and hygienic toilet facilities in both the theatres. Balcony tickets and first class tickets will be sold at Rs 110 and Rs 90 respectively. The number of seats in the balcony has been reduced to 215. At a press conference here, KSFDC chairman Sabu Cherian said the renovation at Kozhikode followed the work at Kairali, Sree and Nila theatres in Thiruvananthapuram, undertaken by the KSFDC. “We have plans to renovate Kairali-Sree theatres in Thrissur as well,’’ he said. Actor and vice-chairman of KSFDC, Idavela Babu, and managing director Deepa D Nair were also present at the meet.
