It was a Grave Error: Vakkom

Express News Service

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vakkom B Purushothaman, former Governor of Mizoram, maintained that none had asked him to resign, but he took serious exception to the way the Union Home Secretary had asked Governors appointed by the Congress-led UPA government to put in their papers. “It was a grave mistake.

How can a secretary call the governor and ask him to resign?,” he asked.

Vakkom was transferred to Nagaland, in a reshuffle of Governors on July 6, at the instance of the NDA Government. Governors’ B L Joshi (Uttar Pradesh), M K Narayanan (West Bengal), Shekhar Dutt (Chhattisgarh), Ashwani Kumar (Nagaland) and B V Wanchoo (Goa) - all UPA nominees - had put in their papers after the NDA Government allegedly pressurised them to quit.

A few  Governors appointed during the tenure of the previous Congress-led UPA government, including Kerala Governor Sheila Dikshit, are still holding ground.
