CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has become the personification of ingratitude by throwing mud on Atal Behari Vajpayee, BJP national executive committee member P S Sreedharan Pillai said on Monday.

“The CPM today exists as a national party because of the democratic mindset and broad-mindedness of Vajpayee,” Sreedharan Pillai said, inaugurating the BJP’s Vattiyoorkavu mandalam convention. “It was Vajpayee who made changes in the norms to let the CPM continue to exist as a national party. This was done on the request of the CPM leaders.

The Vajpayee government had revised the norms which required a political party to be a state-level party in at least four states to be considered a national party.

The govt had changed it to three states, which helped the CPM preserve its status,” Sreedharan Pillai said. “The then CM E K Nayanar had written a letter of gratitude to Vajpayee after the NDA Govt came to the rescue of the LDF-led State Govt which was mired in financial crisis. The CPM and CPI will go down in history as parties destroyed by their own leaders. The Congress will face its biggest defeat in the upcoming LS elections. The BJP stands a good chance in Kerala in the elections,” Sreedharan Pillai said.
