THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor P Sathasivam will flag off the ‘Run Kerala Run’ mass run at the Secretariat here on Tuesday ahead of the 35th National Games, but the main attraction of the day will be cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who is also the goodwill ambassador for the Games.
Tendulkar will run from the Azad Gate of the Secretariat to its North Gate at 10.30 am accompanied by the Governor, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Sports Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, other ministers, sportspersons and celebrities.
“Sachin was to have run till the Central Stadium, but due to security concerns, he will stop at the North Gate and rejoin at the public convention to be held at the stadium,” said Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan on Monday.
Tendulkar arrived at Trivandrum International Airport here at around 12.45 pm on Monday.
The minister added that MLAs from the district, former Sports Minister M Vijayakumar, Mayor K Chandrika and prominent personalities from various walks of life will participate in the run.
Prior to the flag off, dignitaries will arrive on the Secretariat premises by 10.15 am as the state-level inauguration of the event will begin with the National anthem followed by the ‘Run Kerala Run’ theme song.
Thiruvanchoor also said that the security measures for Tendulkar and other celebrities have been impeccably planned by the state police. There will be traffic regulations between 10 am and 12 pm on the premises, he said.
He said the efforts from the public have been brilliant so far and the response to the mass run has been huge.
“T-shirts, bottled water and snacks will be provided to the runners at various venues by the local organisers,” Thiruvanchoor said, appealing to the public to come out and participate in the run irrespective of their age or profession.
A participation of around 10 lakh is expected in the district alone with the runners supposed to report at their respective running point by 9.45 am to line up behind the Games volunteers.
