Bridge for Fishermen's Relief

ALAPPUZHA:The Public Works Department (PWD) has initiated to construct one of the longest bridges at Valiyazheekkal, which would connect Alappuzha and Kollam districts.

The  government issued a principal sanction of Rs  110 crore from the fuel cess fund for the project.The PWD had submitted proposal of Rs  1 crore for the investigation of the project. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala stated that this is a dream coming true for thousands of fishermen living on the coast of Alappuzha and Kollam, as the bridge will open easy commuting route to the Alappad, Azheekkal, Karunagapally and Vallikavu  Amrithanandamyi Asram from Alappuzha district.The construction of the bridge, expected to boost tourism in the region, will begin this year, says minister.PWD executive engineer Deepthi Bhanu said that  the department will begin the investigation after the state government gives administrative sanction  to conduct study.
