Government to open 1,350 farm fresh veg outlets

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the intent of helping farmers get fair price and consumers fresh vegetables, the government will open 1,350 outlets across the state to sell pesticide-free, farm fresh vegetables during Onam, Agriculture Minister V S Sunil Kumar has said at a meeting.

The vegetables will be supplied by the Agriculture Department with the cooperation of the local bodies, cooperative institutes, Kudumbashree, Horticorp and VFPCK.

The vegetables, which will be bought locally from farmers and farmer clusters, will be sold at 30 per cent discount, he said.

He said the vegetables would be supplied through 980 Onasamridhi vegetable markets, 180 markets of Horticorp and 190 stalls of the VFPCK.

Agriculture secretary Raju Narayana Swamy, agriculture director Biju Prabhakar and  Horticorp MD Ranjan S Karippai were present.
