THRISSUR: Kerala Janapaksham founding president K Raman Pillai announced that the party would be dissolved and that they would return to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The decision was announced after a core committee meeting of the Janapaksham at the PWD Guest House here on Wednesday. “The members and office-bearers of the Janapaksham would return to the BJP and work towards strengthening the party. Janapaksham would no longer function as a political party. We are not returning with power or position in mind. Rather, it is intended towards the welfare of the people of the country. Also, the situation that was prevalent in the party when I resigned does not exist now,” he told mediapersons after the party meet. The process for dissolving Janapaksham, registered with the Election Commission, would begin soon, he said. A former BJP state president, Raman Pillai, had floated a new political outfit ‘Kerala Janapaksham’ in 2007. The BJP leadership had earlier publicly asked Raman Pillai and P P Mukundan to return to the party.

The first general secretary of the state unit of the BJP, K Raman Pillai was an RSS Pracharak and a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. Raman Pillai, who served the BJP as its state president, floated a new political party ‘Kerala Janapaksham’ on July 15, 2007, following his difference with the state unit while P K Krishnadas was heading it. Prior to that, he had formed a the socio-cultural organisation, Bharatiya Janapaksham, in November 2006. Kerala Janapaksham had supported the LDF for a while.
