KANNUR: A boat tragedy was averted in Kerala today when fishermen rescued 32 passengers after their vessel started drifting towards the sea mouth while traversing a river in the district, police said.

The boat was traversing the Valapatnam river on its way to Mattur when its engine suffered a snag near Azheekal, they said.
