NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that they are willing to investigate the suspicious death of Jishnu Pranoy, an 18-year-old student of Nehru College in Kerala.

The development comes weeks after CBI was pulled up by the apex court for refusing to investigate the case.

Last month, CBI had told the court that it had not received the notification from the Kerala government that ordered for a CBI probe, which was refuted by the state government.

During the hearing, the court also observed that the delay caused by the Central Bureau of Investigation can lead to deliberate destruction of evidences.

The court was hearing the case of the death of Jishnu Prannoy and Shaheer Shaukat Ali, in which Nehru Group chairman P Krishnadas is an accused.

Jishnu Pranoy, a first year B.Tech student was found hanging at the hostel of the Nehru College of Engineering and Research Centre, Pambady in Thrissur, in January this year.

Jishnu’s parents had then alleged that the 18-year-old had suffered brutal physical and mental harassment at the hands of the college management authorities.

In October, Jishnu’s mother Mahija had moved the Supreme Court seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the death of her son.
