M T Vasudevan Nair to receive Macta ‘Legend of Honour’ award

The award consisting of Rs 1 lakh, a statuette designed by sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman and a citation will be presented on Sunday at the ‘Pranamasandhya’ at the Gokulam Convention Centre in Kaloor.

KOCHI: Litterateur and filmmaker M T Vasudevan Nair will be presented with the inaugural ‘Legend of Honour’ award instituted by the Malayalam Cine Technicians Association (Macta) at a gala function here on Sunday.

Actor Mammootty, who had essayed several memorable roles scripted by the celebrated writer, will present the award consisting of Rs 1 lakh, a statuette designed by  sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman and a citation  at the ‘Pranamasandhya’ at the Gokulam Convention Centre in Kaloor.

The programme, which will honour personalities for their rich contributions to Mollywood, will commence at 6 pm.  

Tune meister Shyam,  lyricist Bichu Thirumala,  stunt director Thyagarajan, costume designer Natarajan, veteran producer Aroma Mani, art director Radhakrishnan, and make-up artist Padmanabhan will be honoured as part of the ‘Gurupranamam’. Veteran filmmaker I V Sasi was honoured at Chennai earlier.

“Most of the Malayalam film fraternity, including technicians and actors will attend the function. This event will mark the entry of a number of new generation technicians into Macta, who were given membership recently, ” said Macta chairman Lal Jose.

Actors and technicians, who won national and state awards, will also be felicitated at the function. The evening will also feature  a four-hour music and dance show by music directors and actors.

As part of the initiative to interact with the audience and make them aware of the medium, Malayalam Cine Technicians Association (Macta) will start a Film Club  based on the ‘My Film with Macta’ concept. “The membership will be open to film enthusiasts across the state, especially students. There will be  screenings on all Saturdays along with an interaction by a senior technician for the members. A mini theatre will be set up at our headquarters soon  for the purpose,” said Macta Chairman Lal Jose.
