KASARGOD: The CPM’s Nileshwaram area committee got away with a ‘public rebuke’ from the party even though it was accused of serious financial irregularities. In a statement issued by the CPM district secretary K P Satheesh Chandran, Nileshwaram area committee members, and area secretary and district committee member T K Ravi were ‘publicly rebuked for running a chit fund, which is against party rules’.

Though the party’s punishment ends with that, the Nileshwaram area committee of the CPM is accused of financial irregularities by a prominent doctor of Kanhangad. The committee had run a Rs 25-lakh chit fund apparently to raise money to build a party office.

But party rules ban members from running chit funds.

In a more serious charge, Saju Thomas wrote to Satheesh Chandran the area committee did not repay him though the fund came to a close.
