KASARGOD: Seven tombs in a Christan cemetery were found vandalised at Ukkinadka near Badiadka on Tuesday. Intriguingly, parishioners also found imprints of witchcraft practitioners in the burial ground. Peter Paul DSouza, a member of Sacred Heart Church, said crosses atop seven tombs were brought down, and tender coconuts, eggs and cucumbers were partially buried near the graves.

He said each of the eggs, tender coconuts and yellow cucumbers had several sets of squares in multiples of four. “And each small square was inscribed with an Arabic letter,” he said.

On the complaint of vicar Stany DSouza, the police have registered a case. Vidyanagar CI Babu Peringath said it was a strange case and needed to be investigated from all angles. He said the area was not known for communal disturbances.

He said the cemetery was out of sight from the public and the miscreants might have been at the burial ground for the past two days. They might have done some ‘voodoo rituals’, he said.
