KANNUR: The hunger strike undertaken by Congress leader K Sudhakaran, which was to end on Wednesday morning, will go on till Thursday, said Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala here on Tuesday. On Tuesday, Congress leaders expressed their anger and resentment over the laxity in the police probe and the CPM’s murder politics and decided to intensify their agitation in connection with the murder of Youth Congress leader Shuhaib.

Addressing party workers who reached the venue to offer support to  the hunger stir, Chennithala announced that Sudhakaran would continue his strike and the future course of the strike would be decided at a meeting to be held on Thursday. It will be attended by Congress MPs, MLAs and senior leaders, including KPCC president M M Hassan.  Ridiculing the idea of a peace meeting in Kannur, Chennithala said the Congress would participate in the peace meeting on Wednesday as they respect democracy. “It’s customary that an all-party team should visit the house of the slain person. Did anything of that sort happen here? Here, violence erupts again before the ink used to sign the peace agreement gets dried. If that’s the case, what’s the sanctity of such a meeting? The police probe is not in the right direction, said Chennithala. The UDF Government had opened a police station in Mudakkozhimala. Now, that station is ill-equipped to deal with the criminals roaming around the region, said Chennithala.

On Tuesday, former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy visited the venue of the agitation. In the morning, he visited  Shuhaib’s house at Edayannur. He criticised the police attitude in the investigation. “There are reports that information was leaked to the CPM by the police team itself. If that’s true, action should be taken against such policemen,” said Chandy.
