Panel headed by tourism secretary to select Kerala's official song

The children of fishermen who died or went missing during cyclone Ockhi last November will be provided education and vocational training free of cost.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to appoint a committee for the selection of an official song for the state. The song will be one that reflects the social and cultural identity of the state, the government said. The committee members are M Leelavathi, Ezhacheri Ramachandran, M M Basheer, M R Raghava Warrier and K P Mohanan. Tourism Secretary Rani George is the convener of the panel.

The children of fishermen who died or went missing during cyclone Ockhi last November will be provided education and vocational training free of cost. The Cabinet has, in principle, approved a recommendation submitted by the Fisheries Department director in this regard. As many as 318 persons will benefit from this decision.

Funds will be sourced from the Chief Minister’s distress relief fund as and when required. The Cabinet has decided to open legal metrology offices in each of the new 14 taluks created by the government. As many as 42 permanent posts will be created for manning the offices. An additional 42 posts will be created on a daily wage basis.
