KOCHI: Though Kerala is ranked No. 3 in the country in terms of use of technology, cyber crimes are increasing at an alarming pace in the state, said DGP Loknath Behera. He was speaking while inaugurating the fourth phase of the district administration’s E-Jagratha project at the Infopark TCS campus here on Thursday.

“Though the internet is a large platform to share knowledge and opportunities, its misuse is also rampant. We should educate students about the real use of the internet,” he said.

“Many students are trapped into cyber crimes due to lack of awareness. So, the E-Jagratha project should be extended to all schools in the state. It will help both parents and students learn about the responsible use of the internet,” he said.

In the latest phase of E-Jagratha, 101 schools under the Ernakulam, Aluva, Muvattupuzha and Kothamangalam educational divisions will stand to gain, with students of Class VIII, IX and X getting a chance to associate themselves with the project.

“Around 12,577 students will be trained under the E-Jagratha scheme. Of the total, 3,843 students are new to the programme,” said District Collector K Mohammed Y Safirulla,
