THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The ethics committee of the Assembly is likely to hear the sister of the nun against whom PC George MLA had made derogatory remarks in connection with the rape case involving Jalandhar Bishop Franco Mulakkal. The sister of the nun had lodged a complaint with the Speaker. According to the Speaker’s office, the complaint has been referred to the ethics committee headed by A Pradeep Kumar MLA.

George had made derogatory remarks against the nun during a press conference on September 8. In mid-September, Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan said the ethics committee of the Assembly would examine the derogatory remarks made by George - who incidentally is a member of the committee.

The committee has sweeping powers to examine issues related to the moral turpitude of members, the Speaker had said at the time. The decision was taken in view of the widespread protests that George’s remarks attracted. The Assembly would take further action once the committee submits its reports.
