BIRMAHARAJPUR: Former Steel and Mines minister and BJD candidate for Birmaharajpur Assembly constituency, Padmanav Behera defeated his nearest Congress candidate Binod Patra by a margin of 21,401 votes.

While Behera got 61,803 votes, Patra polled 40,402 votes and BJP candidate Damayanti Barik secured 20,075 votes.
