ROURKELA: Former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam today viewed that ‘small aim is a crime’ and hard work and honesty are important to realise big dreams. He was here to attend the seventh convocation of the National Institute of Technology - Rourkela (NIT-R).
Kalam called upon the young technocrats to have a mission in life, acquire knowledge constantly, defeat problems with perverseness, practice to perfection and evaluate self-progress periodically. On the Vision- 2020 to transform India into a developed nation, Kalam prescribed reduction in the rural-urban divide, inclusive growth, boost to agro and service sector, educational and value system access to all, best health care availability, no crime against women and children and freedom from terrorism, illiteracy and corruption.
Quoting from the book of `Empire of Mind’, Kalam said in the rapidly changing scenario unlike in the past, ‘synergy is the mandate, teams make the decision, creativity is the driver and competitiveness is powered by motto’. He inspired the gathering to shape their lives with a desire to be remembered for long and prescribed to work and succeed with integrity.
Chairman of the Board of Governors of the host institute Drona Rath, NIT-R Director Prof. SK Sarangi and convocation convenor Prof. SK Jena spoke.
Later, Kalam attended the valedictory ceremony of the second edition of the Inter-School Innovative Science exhibition. Kalam told the young children that righteousness in heart cascades to beauty in character, which leads to harmony in life and order in nation and finally peace on earth. Before flying out to Lanjigarh, he told the children to share happiness with others for success in life.
DEGREES AWARDED: The seventh convocation of the prestigious National Institute of Technology-Rourkela (NIT-R) concluded at the institute campus today with conferring of 568 post-graduate and under-graduate degrees. Altogether 325 B.Tech, 27 MSc, 30 MCA, 153 M.
Tech, 20 M.Tech by Research and 12 PhD degrees were awarded.
