BHUBANESWAR: Orissa Government is going to form a special purpose vehicle (SPV) which will oversee peripheral development in the mining areas, keep an eye on tribal development programmes and ensure inclusive growth.

A high level meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, decided that the State Government is planning to invest ` 800 crore through the special purpose vehicle.

The SPV will be responsible for devising small development projects and livelihood and welfare programmes in the mining areas. Given the impact on environment, displacement and loss of livelihood, the Government has decided that it will be mandated with creating strategies for health as well as sanitation improvement in tribal areas besides enhancement of skill.

The SPV, which would be registered under Societies Registration Act, will have governing and executive bodies with members drawn from government and non government agencies.

Chief Secretary BK Patnaik, Finance Secretary JK Mohapatra, Forest Secretary Aurobindo Behera and Steel and Mines Secretary Manoj Ahuja were present in the meeting.
