Rs 518.58 crore project for flood control

The State Government has launched a  Rs 518.58-crore project with assistance from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) for flood control in Odisha to be completed in next two years.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday reviewed the Government’s preparations to meet flood situation.

The Nabard assisted  project includes a total of 86 flood control projects  in different  districts all over the State. The Government has also launched  the flood management programme at a cost of Rs 62.32 crore to be completed by March, 2015.

This will save 160 villages in Jajpur district from the fury of the flood.

Besides, the Government has allotted Rs 92 crore to complete projects on permanent flood control measures during the year.

 It was decided that 54.78-km saline embankments will be repaired and their height raised at a cost of Rs181.97 crore.

Official sources said 310 vulnerable points have been identified by the district administrations on the river embankments.

Besides, 24-hour patrolling has been ordered near 35 very vulnerable points. Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik and other senior officials attended the meeting.
