Express News Service

An engineering student ended his life by hanging himself in his mess room at Jagamohan Nagar under Khandagiri police limits of the City late on Sunday.

He was identified as Ananda Bhusan Patel, a first year civil engineering student of a private university. Patel and his friends attended a feast last evening and retired for the day. However, Patel was found hanging in his room in the morning by his friends.

A native of Sundargarh district, Patel did not show any indication to his friends that he was going to take the extreme step. His family members have been informed and the cause of suicide is being probed.

In a separate incident, a Class IV employee of the State Secretariat also ended his life. Sukant Panda, a peon with the Finance Department, hanged himself in his Unit II quarters’ bathroom.

Capital Police suspect that 46-year-old Panda was affected by family disputes which led him to take the extreme step. Two different cases of unnatural death have been lodged with the respective police stations.
