Express News Service

Five persons were arrested from Dumerjor area by Birmitrapur police for their alleged involvement in a gangrape case on Tuesday.

Birmitrapur SDPO PC Routray said the crime had taken place around 11.30 am on Saturday when the 15-year-old victim of Kuanrmunda block accompanied by her distant relative were on way to Usra on a two-wheeler.

Near a stone quarry at Dumerjor, Manga Kujur (30), Pradip Kisan (20) and a juvenile intercepted them. Soon two others identified as Aitu Toppo (28) and Bipin Toppo (19) joined them.

After a while, Aitu and Manga took the girl to a nearby bush and committed the crime, while the rest three caught hold of her male relative.

Police said due to social stigma the girl kept mum over the rape as in her initial police complaint, she said that she was kidnapped from an auto-rickshaw and molested but she managed to flee. In course of investigation, the rape came to light and after counselling she admitted of it on Monday.

Investigators said under the IPC, the rest three who assisted in the crime too are liable to face charges of gangrape.
