When renowned contemporary dancer Astad Deboo demonstrated his skills at the Bakul Library to the inmates of a local orphanage, they were completely in awe of him. After speaking about his dance form to them, Deboo showed “Breaking Boundaries”, a documentary on his performance with the children of Salaam Baalak Trust.

“Since, contemporary dance is new to many dancers, it takes a lot of time to grasp the art. First, a dancer has to take control over his body and then gradually start to feel the movements,” he said.

Deboo, who is currently working on  a solo performance entailing the Tibetan monks, also taught a few moves to the kids who were enthralled at his energy and style. “Even at 66, he is so fit and full of energy. It was a great opportunity for us to dance with him. His style was different and new to us,” said Sujata Sahoo, one of the participants.
