Government seeks bank help on scholarship

The State Government has sought cooperation from zonal managers and chief zonal managers of nationalised banks operating in the State for opening zero balance saving accounts in their branches for disbursement of scholarship to scheduled category students.

The Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes Development Department is rolling out a Centrally assisted pre-Matric scholarship scheme for ST and SC students studying in Class-IX and X. The scheme is being supported in the State by the Department for  the  International Development (DFID).

The DFID has appointed a technical assistance agency to support the process of rolling out the scholarship schemes.

The ST and SC Development department has requested nationalised banks having zonal offices here to provide necessary support to the technical assistance agency to open zero balance accounts for the scheduled category students to facilitate disbursement of scholarship through e-payment system.

Schools of management type - Government, Government aided and private (recognised) - across the State are covered under the programme.
