Two held for selling girl to brothel

Police have arrested two persons from Bhogarai area of Balasore district on the charges of selling a girl in Mumbai and forcing her into prostitution. The accused Dipali Mahuri and her brother-in-law Satyaban Mahuri were produced in the court and remanded in judicial custody on Friday.

The prime accused, Pradip Mahurimanaged to escape before the police team raided their house in Tengeramari village. The couple had allegedly sold the 17-year-old girl to one Bapi of Baliapal and Shiva of Haldipada who drugged her and again sold her to a brothel in Mumbai 10 years back. 

Mahuri (27), now married to a man from Karnataka and a mother of two, had returned to her village to bring the perpetrators of her exploitation to book.

Police registered a fresh case following the complaint of the victim’s father. IIC of Bhogarai police station PS Kalia said the two had been remanded in two weeks’ judicial custody and efforts were on to nab the main accused Pardip.
