Gale, rain damage 80 houses

Heavy stormy wind and rain on Monday afternoon caused extensive damage in the district.

While more then 80 thatched houses were damaged in Panchgaon, Bhikampali, Atabira and Kanaktura villages under Lakhanpur Block, many trees and electric poles were uprooted on the main road in the area disrupting power supply.

Similarly, thunder shower and stormy wind caused severe damage in Barmal, Kantapali, Hirma panchayats.

An old tree got uprooted and fell on a house at Bengalipara under Mangalbajar area but, no casualty was reported. Hundreds of heavy vehicles were stranded on both sides of NH-49 as around 120 trees were uprooted along the NH from Kanatura to BTM Chhak. Electric poles got bent disrupting power supply in the area.

The residents of the panchayat are awaiting compensation from the district authorities for the damage.
